About this Blog

So here’s the thing: I have a book coming out very soon – in a matter of days – and I know if I want people to actually read it, I should do something about promoting it. I’ve never been very good about that sort of thing so I’ve been doing all sorts of reading about ‘brand’, and ‘presence’ and ‘establishing a platform’. I did the preliminary part: I’ve got Facebook, I opened a Twitter account and started a blog through my publisher but I still feel lost. I’m not only clueless about how to do it; I really have an attitude about it.  I hate promotion. The thought of it makes my skin crawl.

I think the biggest reason I shy away from promoting my books to people is that I hate to be promoted ‘at’ and therein lies the dilemma (Lays the dilemma? Grammar check says so, but it just doesn’t sound right to the ear. Of course, I’m almost always on the wrong side of the lay/lie rule so don’t go by me. But anyway…)

I have the mechanism for promotion, but nothing on it: a blog with no posts, a Twitter with no tweets (honestly can’t think of a thing to say, and can’t keep up with the following/followers thing) and a bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing, so here’s what I’ve come up with:

Hopefully at some point I’ll be hit with an epiphany and will discover the perfect promotion platform that turns me into a best-selling author yet irritates no one (or if any of you have already figured that part out and would be willing to share, I’m ok with that.) In the meantime, I’ll be plugging away – on this blog mostly – writing about stuff I want to write about, sharing about my book when there’s something to share, and trying to figure this stuff out as I go.

Thanks for reading!
